Assessment arrangements 2021/2022

What you need to know

We previously annnounced and communicated in letters to centres that GCSE, AS and A level exams are going ahead in 2022. The assessment requirements have been adapted to take into account the disruption caused by the pandemic during 2020/2021.

The assessment requirements for the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificates have also been adapted to take account of the disruption caused by the pandemic.

Adaptations are in place for the assessment of vocational qualifications in 2021/2022. These vary across awarding bodies depending on the purpose of the qualifications and how they are structured and assessed. Where vocational qualifications are assessed by examination, these will go ahead as planned in 2021/2022.

In all cases, if there are further substantial periods of disruption that results in the cancellation of future exam series, contingency arrangements will be put in place. We are discussing potential contingency plans with various stakeholders including school and college leaders, union representatives, regulators in other parts of the UK, Children’s Commissioner for Wales and our Learner Advisory Group.

The latest announcements will be published on our Press & Media pages.
